Title: The Ministry of Jesus
Text: Matthew 4:23-25

23 And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. 24 So his fame spread throughout all Syria, and they brought him all the sick, those afflicted with various diseases and pains, those oppressed by demons, those having seizures, and paralytics, and he healed them. 25 And great crowds followed him from Galilee and the Decapolis, and from Jerusalem and Judea, and from beyond the Jordan.

Big Idea: Jesus’ ministry did not simply consist of preaching and teaching. Most certainly, that was central to his ministry, but his remarkable ministry of healing confirmed His teaching and proved that He was the Son of God. Our greatest need for healing is to be healed and forgiven of our sins. Only Jesus can provide that healing through His atonement.

Outline: The Ministry of Jesus consisted primarily of:

1. Preaching…. “proclaiming the gospel of the Kingdom.”

2. Teaching…. “teaching in their synagogues.”

3. Healing…. “healing every disease and sickness among the people.”

Scripture Readings: Luke 4:16-17, Acts 17:1-4, 1 John 1:1-4, Nehemiah 8:5, 8, and Acts 8:29-30, 35, James 1:21, John 3:1ff, Matthew 9:1-8, Psalm 103:2-3

Good Quote: Preaching is the uncompromising proclamation of certainties; teaching is the explanation of the meaning and the significance of them. William Barclay
